Here you can still find many monuments from the time of Charlemagne and his Carolingian Empire. The cosmopolitan capital city of Amsterdam is a comfortable 2½ hour train journey.

For the more adventurous, you can get up early, catch a local train to Liège in Belgium to connect with the fast train to Paris, climb the Eiffel Tower, visit the Louvre and have lunch in the Montmartre district. You can be back in time to watch the sun set over the hills surrounding Walnut Lodge!
